Meet our Crew- Dave Scott

broneah-team-dave-scottName: Dave “Sunset” Scott
Position:
Chief Wind Advisor
Bio:
I was born and raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. The whole wind addiction began when I garbage picked a Bic windsurfer around the age of 15, I was determined to figure that stupid thing out!  On to Lake St. Claire (the washing machine) I went and struggled until people on shore helped me out with advice like “try a harness”, that made life much easier. Anyways, on to big wind and big waves I went… to the point that I was out in Lake Huron during some nice gales that increased to “storm force” (50+ knots), broke some gear and drifting towards Canada quickly. My boys on shore saw it all go down, so about 8 hours later the Coast Guard finally found me! Big props to the Coastie’s, major respect to those guys, ALWAYS!!!

Now on to BIGGER & BETTER things… Don’t get me wrong, I will always have a place in my heart for windsurfing, but on to kiting I went and opened up a whole new can of worms, and these worms ROCK!!! Kiting on a big day, or even on a light wind day, is the most fun i have ever had on the water, & I have had some good days on the water! Oh, I have really been worked kiting, but I have “paid my dues”. Paying dues leads to really good times!!!

It all started when I was at a place called “Vans Beach” in Leland Mi. I was windsurfing and met these 2 brothers, Matt & Keegan Myers (Broneah), just after I moved to Traverse City. These guys have the same wind addiction I have and are just as passionate about it. They got me stoked on the kiting scene and have been very supportive, showing me secret spots that really go off, supplying me with some awesome Liquid Force gear  and so on… !

Now, my life revolves around warm wind… the Keys for the winter, Spring & Fall in MI., a good month of summer in the Gorge. I will say that kiting Frankfort Michigan on a gale force, 15 foot swell day beats everywhere else in my opinion!

Point of the story, if you don’t already realize, KITING ROCKS!!!!

Think wind.
