Meet our Crew- Dennis Clarke
Name: Dennis “DC” Clarke
Position: Coach
Bio: I was twelve when I bought my first windsurfer and learned the basics of wind. After spending 15 years living in the western mountains whitewater kayaking, I learned the knowledge of hydrology. On my way back to Michigan, I traded my kayak for a windsurfer and put aerodynamics and hydrology together for the next couple of years. Then I heard about kiting and wanted to do it so I ordered a 12 meter from Hawaii. I spent one year of trials and tribulations of self taught kiting, all this without ever seeing it done in person!
In 2004 I was on a cruise in West Bay in Traverse City and stopped at Marion Island to try kiting. The next day it blew south into this perfect, shallow bay. As I rowed my dingy toward the spot, Matt and Keegan showed up in a small boat and started kiting. This was the first time I had ever observed it done and could see how it all works together. From that moment on I understood kiteboarding and have ridden anytime possible. Now I enjoy every aspect of kiting; from islands, to mainland crossings, to the frozen lakes and snowy mountains. Kiteboarding gear packs so small, so let’s go!
