Meet our Crew- Mauricio Murillo
Name: Mauricio “Mo-Son” Murillo
Position: Coach
Bio: Going on four years ago I relocated to Traverse City from Saginaw, Michigan. I never thought I would be spending my summer on the beach every day, my winters carving through powdery snow, or two months in between teaching the wonderful world of kiteboarding in the Caribbean.
The first time I felt the real power of wind was when co-worker and good friend Nate Davis put a massive 16-Meter blue and white Naish C-kite in my hands. I consider myself a tough and confident person, growing up on a skateboard and snowboard; I thought it would be a piece of cake, but boy was I wrong! Flying a kite, and riding a board at the same time was not an easy task, but by the grace of God in the form of wind and perseverance, I prevailed. From that day on it was curtains – finished – “done’s Ville” – there was no way anything or anyone could pry the control bar from my calloused ridden hands, or until the wind decided otherwise.
Broneah, which has grown into a family, has given me the opportunity and skill to pass on not only a sport but a lifestyle. Thanks to Matt and Keegan, now I get to be the one putting the control bar in other hands and teaching them to harness the power of Mother Nature through a kite. With that said, I plan on being here for all of our students and that random person that needs a launch on the beach. Just remember as long as we are considerate and safe, this sport and lifestyle will live on forever.
